A Day with the Advanced Ceramics Experts

“2016 Company Holiday” at CeramTec

Plochingen, 2016-08-30

29 students used the first day of summer vacation to get a behind the scenes look at the world of advanced ceramics at CeramTec in Plochingen. As part of Esslingen County’s “Company Holiday” campaign, students from the region had the opportunity to visit over 50 different organizations and institutions in their summer vacation.

On July 28th, the following professions were profiled at CeramTec: Industrial Mechanic, Technical Product Designer, Industrial Clerk and Computer Science Specialist. This year, the focus was on practical experience, and the CeramTec trainees were faced with a particular challenge: They developed small tasks in advance for the students, which were meant to provide insight into the respective career fields. They used a speed-dating concept so that each student was able to learn about all four fields. Students had to measure rotating parts with a caliper with the industrial mechanics. The industrial clerks had them calculate an offer correctly and properly deduct a discount. At the technical product design table, spatial visualization was in demand, while the computer science specialists had built a computer that required students to program status lights. After 20 minutes, students switched tables so that they could get acquainted with the next career field.

After the career speed dating, the visitors took a tour of the Mechanical Applications production division and the training workshop. Students thoroughly enjoyed the campaign day – some of them have even already applied for a training position at CeramTec.
