Over 50 years of ceramics expertise in wire drawing

Maximum process reliability and increased product quality in wire drawing

Plochingen, 2016-04-04

Drawing tools made of ceramic materials from CeramTec are standard in the production of copper and non-ferrous metal wires throughout the world: Customers benefit from improved product quality paired with lower maintenance costs, extended maintenance intervals and longer machine service life thanks to the hard and clearly defined surfaces of ceramic materials. These are just a few reasons why technical ceramics such as zirconium oxide and alumina are used as standards in wire drawing applications with modern wire drawing machines of all sizes.

Ceramic tools made by CeramTec have been used in the wire manufacturing industry for over 50 years now. Machine components such as drawing rings, drawing and guide rollers or ring segments, eyelets and form elements are subject to severe stress and, consequently, sustained wear. This is why the use of exceptionally durable ceramic materials is now standard in all modern wire drawing machines. The ceramic specialists from Plochingen now also offer large components with a diameter of up to 485 millimeters. Wire drawing machines can be refitted without difficulty with tools made from technical ceramics.

Improved wire surface and consistent wire thickness

Thanks to their excellent tribological properties, CeramTec advanced ceramics help wire manufacturers optimize wire surfaces. Corrosion damage to coated wires is also avoided in the process. Ceramic wire drawing tools guarantee a constant wire slip factor. This in turn means that wire breakage rarely occurs in the production process, which significantly reduces maintenance costs for the manufacturer. Increased tool life shortens the total set-up times. What’s more, improved running times for machines result in maximum process reliability while at the same time steadily increasing product quality.

CeramTec at wire and Tube 2016 in Düsseldorf

CeramTec has continued to develop these durable ceramic materials and the associated production capabilities for the past 50 years, thereby establishing itself as a reliable partner to the wire manufacturing industry. CeramTec will be presenting its wire drawing expertise at the “wire” trade fair in Düsseldorf in Hall 10, Stand F21 from April 4–8, 2016.
