The German Society for Orthopaedics and Orthopaedic Surgery e.V. (DGOOC) presents the EUR 5,000 Heinz-Mittelmeier Research Award 2016 in collaboration with CeramTec each year. The award is offered to young doctors, engineers and scientists age 40 and under for outstanding research and development work in the field of bioceramics and the problem of wear in joint replacements and in combination with clinical results of ceramic implants.

To participate in the competition send the work in German or English solely via email until July 31, 2016 with a corresponding declaration that your work has not been distinguished with a similar award. The winner is chosen by a DGOOC jury. The 2016 research award will be presented during the jointly sponsored congress by the German Society for Orthopaedics and Orthopaedic Surgery (DGOOC), the German Association for Trauma Surgery (DGU) and the Professional Association of Orthopaedists and Trauma Surgeons (BVOU) – from October 25 to 28, 2016 in Berlin.

Last year’s award winner is Julian Gührs, a doctoral candidate at the Hamburg University of Technology (TUHH) Institute of Biomechanics. He won the Heinz-Mittelmeier Research Award for his paper on “The influence of stem taper re-use upon the failure load of ceramic heads”.
