Mobile LED spotlight for fire department lifeboat

CeramCool® Searchlights help save Lives

Plochingen, 2014-11-10

In October, the Plochingen volunteer fire department was presented three mobile LED searchlights based on CeramCool® ceramic heat-sinks to be used in search and rescue missions. The LED spotlights are engraved with the words “Donated by CeramTec in memory of Nikolaus Maurer” and will be used on the fire department’s lifeboat.

Nikolaus Maurer was the Commander of the Plochingen fire department for many years; he passed away unexpectedly at the end of 2013. He oversaw the design and construction of the new fire station. CeramTec had already donated the complete LED lighting based on CeramCool® ceramic modules for the outside area and the fire tower of the neighbor to the Plochingen site.

At the fire station inauguration ceremony, Nikolaus Maurer and others had the idea to also develop a mobile searchlight for the fire department’s lifeboat. This led to the creation of LED searchlights featuring extremely high light output with low energy consumption that produce plenty of light for rescue missions in dark conditions on the Neckar River and surrounding quarry lakes.
