BIOLOX® ceramic ball head # 1,000,000 in 2012

December 17, 2012 will go down as an important date in the history of CeramTec: It marks the production of over one million BIOLOX® components for hip joint replacement systems within a single business year. Every 30 seconds a ceramic component from CeramTec is implanted in a patient in Europe, the United States, Asia, Africa or Australia.

CeramTec produces ceramic ball heads and cup inserts for hip joint replacement systems made of BIOLOX® advanced ceramics at the two sites in Plochingen and Marktredwitz. The growing importance of ceramic in medical applications of this type has to do with its special properties: biocompatibility, no allergic reactions and high hardness that is associated with reduced wear. For 40 years, CeramTec has been a specialist in this field, playing a significant role in advancing key developments that have helped substantially improve the quality of life of over eight million patients to date.

CeramTec executives and employees came together to celebrate the production of BIOLOX® ball head # 1,000,000, an important milestone in the company history: CEO Dr. Ulf-D. Zimmermann (2nd from left) with management colleagues Rolf-Michael Müller and Sigurd Adler, Production Manager Uwe Kemmer and Medical Products Division Manager Peter Strötgen (from right).
