CeramTec announced a new record at the end of 2012: For the first time in the company’s history, CeramTec produced over a million BIOLOX® ceramic components for hip replacement systems within a single business year. For 2013, CeramTec has set the goal of producing the nine millionth BIOLOX® advanced ceramics component. For Nils Schmid, Baden-Württemberg’s State Minister for Finance and Economic Affairs, these two important milestones were a good reason to pay a visit to CeramTec’s site in Plochingen.

The visit included a meeting with Executives Dr. Ulf-D. Zimmermann and Sigurd Adler, Medical Products Division Manager Peter Strötgen and Works Council Representative Oliver Klemm. They discussed key topics such as the difficulty in finding qualified workers in greater Stuttgart, demographic changes and transportation policy. After the discussion, SPD State Chairman Nils Schmid toured the BIOLOX® advanced ceramics production facilities and was explained the most important manufacturing steps. Nils Schmid: “It is impressive to see the degree of precision and the outstanding quality with which this company works. Making life easier for so many people across the globe – that is a truly remarkable achievement!”

CeramTec has been making ceramic ball heads and cup inserts for hip joint replacement systems under the BIOLOX® name for 40 years, helping improve the quality of life of over eight million patients to date.
