Successful merger of Cerasiv GmbH and Hoechst CeramTec AG in 1996

CeramTec AG celebrates 10th anniversary

Plochingen, 25th September 2006

In September 2006 CeramTec AG celebrates its 10th anniversary. In September 1996, the two major manufacturers of high-performance ceramics in Germany, Cerasiv GmbH and Hoechst CeramTec AG, were merged to form CeramTec AG. But the roots of the companies spread back over 100 years, so CeramTec AG can look back on a long tradition in manufacturing technical ceramics.

Today, CeramTec AG is a successful company operating internationally with 14 sites in Europe, the USA and Asia. In total, some 3000 employees internationally realize revenues of around €300 million. With a wide range of products the company serves the automotive, electronics, medical technology and mechanical engineering markets. Since 2004, CeramTec has been part of the Rockwood Specialties Group of the USA. In the last two years, investments of more than €80 million have been made worldwide to secure the future perspectives of CeramTec AG.

The two biggest German producers of high-performance ceramics were merged in 1996 to consolidate the company’s position on the world market and secure the development of innovative products. The goals have largely been attained, says CEO Dr. Ulf-D. Zimmermann. The teams from both companies entrusted with the integration performed outstanding work and set up CeramTec so well that the company is today excellently positioned, Zimmermann continues.
