Advanced Ceramics for Solid Oxide Fuel Cell Systems

CeramTec’s portfolio of products for solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs) comprises both electrolyte supported (ESC) and anode supported (ASC) cells made from ceramic materials.

CeramCell Fuel Cell Components

CeramTec has also been involved in developing components for fuel cells since 1990 and its CeramCell fuel cells underscore the company’s focus on solid oxide fuel cell systems. SOFCs are operated at high temperature ranges (650–1,000°C). The electrolytes, cathodes and anodes in these fuel cells are made from ceramic materials, which can either conduct oxygen ions yet isolate electrons, or – in the case of cathodes and anodes – can conduct both ions and electrons.

CeramTec CeramCell components are based on flexible ceramic tape, which can also be used to realize complex, multi-layer three-dimensional assemblies for electronic applications. CeramCell components are available in an ESC version or in ASC variations. The three ASC types include: ASC-LSM (lanthanum strontium manganite), ASC-LSCF (lanthanum strontium cobaltite ferrite) and ASC-HC (half cell).
