BIOLOX®OPTION System for Revision and Primary Surgery

The BIOLOX®OPTION System is intended for use either for cup revision or ball head exchange in cases where ceramic heads must be inserted on in situ prosthesis stems. Furthermore, the neck system makes neck length corrections possible for primary hip replacements (XL for 28 mm, 32 mm, 36 mm, 40 mm, 44 mm and 48 mm ceramic ball heads).

Variety of Insertion Options

The BIOLOX®OPTION System offers surgeons a choice of implanting a new wear couple using BIOLOX®delta or optimizing the existing wear couple and adapting it specifically to the patient’s needs.

Available taper sizes for the

BIOLOX®OPTION System ball heads are made from wear-resistant BIOLOX®delta advanced ceramics and are available in diameters of 28 mm, 32 mm, 36 mm, 40 mm, 44 mm and 48 mm.

The titanium sleeves are made with the TiAl6V4 titanium alloy, which has proven itself through years of use. There are four neck lengths: S, M, L and XL. The neck-free design allows for a full range of movement. The ball heads and titanium sleeves are attached using the proven taper connection system. The BIOLOX®OPTION System is available in these sizes.

BIOLOX®OPTION ball heads are made from BIOLOX®delta, an alumina matrix composite ceramic that is bioinert, biocompatible, wear-resistant and thus helps avoid allergic reactions.

Combining Replacement Components

During preoperative planning it is essential to verify the compatibility of the taper on the in situ stem to ensure it is compatible with the taper angle of the adapter. BIOLOX®OPTION ball heads made from BIOLOX®delta can be combined with BIOLOX®forte or BIOLOX®delta inserts or polyethylene and highly cross-linked polyethylene inserts as wear partners.

BIOLOX®OPTION Ball Heads and Sleeves

If the hip system to be implanted consists of various components from different orthopedic manufacturers, approval must be obtained from these manufacturers in advance.

To ensure the success of the BIOLOX®OPTION System it is important to observe the information outlined in the BIOLOX®OPTION brochure, the instructions for use provided by CeramTec and by the orthopedic manufacturer.
