The XXX Olympic Summer Games open in London on July 27, 2012. A total of 302 competitions in 26 disciplines will take place on and around the River Thames according to a fixed time schedule. As of now it's not clear which of the world's best ski jumpers will be at the XXII Olympic Winter Games February 7–23, 2014 in Sochi, Russia. But one thing is certain: The top athletes will once again compete for medals on the world's most advanced and technically innovative ski jump system – featuring technical ceramics from CeramTec.
Thanks to the ALOSLIDE®ICE ceramic inrun track system the conditions for jumping are always the same for every athlete. What sounds like a simple concept is in reality a system that the inventors at CeramTec-ETEC in Lohmar near Cologne have developed to perfection. The shape of the scientifically calculated ceramic nubs that are vulcanized in special caoutchouc in a proven layout design, the integrated cooling system, and the ice cutter with brush system installed on the track ensure that all jumpers always have optimum, unchanging sliding conditions. This applies to both winter and summer operation. And it goes without saying that the entire system is FIS certified.
Together with their contract partners, the experts at CeramTec-ETEC achieved yet another extraordinary feat in Sochi: They installed the highly complex ALOSLIDE®ICE system on the steel structure of the K 125 ski jump in just under three weeks – in at times extreme conditions of minus 13 degrees Celsius (9 degrees Fahrenheit) and heavy snowfall. The technicians and workers showed great flexibility and professionalism; they had to manually transport the water for the cooling system – some 2,200 liters - from the valley station to the jump because the infrastructure had not yet been completed.
Olympic-style events have already become a tradition for the ALOSLIDE® system: It was already in use at the 2006 Winter Games in Turin and at the 2011 Asian Winter Games in Almaty, Kazakhstan, and allowed competitions to take place under optimum conditions independent of the weather. ALOSLIDE®ICE has proven itself to be an extremely effective system at the Four Hills Tournament in Bischofshofen, Austria, in Einsiedeln, Switzerland, home of the FIS Summer Grand Prix, at the FIS Team Cup in Klingenthal, Germany, and at the ski jump used for the Junior Cup/German Cup in Oberstdorf, Germany, in March 2012 – and has been highly praised by ski jumpers.
