The Materials

RUBALIT® materials with an Al2O3 content of 94% (RUBALIT® A 1894) and 98% (RUBALIT® A 1898) were specifically developed by CeramTec in response to electrical and electronic engineering needs. In conjunction with our complementary metallization systems, a vacuum-tight bond of high strength is achieved.

Thermal expansion

The expansion curves of our Rubalit® Alumina materials A 1894 and A 1898 are essentially identical and have therefore been combined on the chart above.
The graph shows a comparison of the expansion curves of various metallic materials. Where highly different expansion properties are encountered, effective design solutions must be implemented.

SF-Cu = 2.0090
Ni 42 = 1.3917
NiCo 2823 = 1.3982
W = Tungsten

Metallization bond strength

The bond strength between the metallization and the ceramic surface is evaluated by different test methods.
The chart below shows the distribution of specific bond strengths in ceramic surge arrester sleeves with metallized end faces. In the test employed, the specimens are soldered to metal components (e.g., NiCo 2823) at both ends and then exposed to a tensile load in a gimbal suspension.
