Aluminum oxide
Aluminum oxide in its various degrees of purity
is probably the most important oxide ceramic and
used for widely varying technical applications.
Bauxite is a yellow-brownish sedimentary rock and
the basis for aluminum oxide; it is extracted by
means of complex chemical conversion processes.
CeramTec's RUBALIT® family embraces
certain types of ceramics that combine low density
and light weight.
Depending on the specific type, these aluminum oxide ceramics feature a variety of properties:
- Good mechanical strength
- Good heat conductivity
- Good fire resistance
- Good corrosion and wear resistance
- Good sliding properties
- Very good electric insulation
Moreover, RUBALIT® can be easily metalized and processed with all commercial thick-layer pastes and thin-film coatings.
