Aluminum nitride
Aluminum nitride is extracted from a synthesis of aluminum and nitrogen and is remarkable for its good heat conductivity. Aluminum nitride materials feature:
- Very good heat conductivity
- High electrical insulation properties
- Good resistance to sudden changes in temperature
- Good metallizing properties
- Very little expansion under heat
Aluminum nitride is suitable as an insulation material in microelectronics or aluminum metallurgy, as a resonator in laser technology or as a heat exchanger. Furthermore, substrates for semiconductors and power electronics are produced from aluminum nitride. Due to the similar temperature expansion of aluminum nitride and silicon, mechanical strain can be kept very low by combing these two materials.
