Cutting Materials

Added value with SPK cutting materials.

Due to unbeatable wear resistance hardness and hot hardness SPK-Ceramics established itself as an ideal cutting material for mass production of cast iron parts, hard rolls and hardened steel. Machining speed is increased, production time shortened, output, productivity and efficiency are highly improved.

A wide range of products for SPK-WURBON® is completing the range of cutting materials for high performance machining of cast iron and hardened steel.

SPK-Cermets achieve best surface qualities and dimensional accuracy of the work pieces in finishing steel. They are ideal suited for finishing and fine finishing operations with low chip cross sections and uniform depths of cut.

SPK cutting materials for turning

SL 508
This new silicon nitride is ideal suited for high-performance rough milling of cast iron. The outstanding wear resistance in combination with excellent toughness promise good process reliability under the roughest conditions.

SL 506
Special grade for finish turning operations on grey cast iron materials. The grade incorporates mechanically resistant materials which enable an enormous improvement of the grade’s edge stability and wear resistance without affecting its toughness.

SL 500
Universal silicon nitride grade particularly suited for roughing and finishing of grey cast iron materials performed with both continuous and interrupted cuts.

SL 200
This grade is distinguished by etreme toughness and is particularly suited for roughing of cast iron even under unfavourable cutting conditions.

SL 554 C
The gold colored TiCN-TiN multilayer coating increases wear resistance while reducing the frictional forces between insert and workpiece. It is especially suited for rough turning of high-strength nodular cast iron with both continuous and highly intermittent cutting.

SL 550 C
This silicon nitride grade comes with a TiN-Al2O3 coating which enables roughing and semifinishing operations on nodular graphite cast iron even under severe cutting conditions.

SH 3
This new mixed ceramic has an increased wear resistance combined with very good toughness and high edge stability. It is the ideal cutting material for machining rolls while increase productivity and reduce costs.

SH 2
Grade offering an extremely homogenous submicron structure which enables high mechanical and thermal resistance and highly precise cutting edges. Mixed ceramic grade for hard fine machining in continuous cutting.

SN 80
Standard grade for turning of cast iron and alloyed cast iron in continuous cutting, and for applications involving higher depths of cut and high demands towards wear resistance.

SN 60
Al2O3-based grade offering maximum resistance to wear and red hardness. Ideal for grooving and turning of cast iron performed in continuous cutting.

WBN 100
Poly crystalline boron nitride for milling of chilled cast iron, hardened cast iron, sintered metals and hard coatings.

WBN 100 C
is a solid WBN grade for rough machining and finishing of grey cast iron, and for machining chilled cast iron.

WBN 101
is a solid WBN grade, and owing to its optimized toughness and wear resistance is particularly suited for machining rolls made of chilled cast iron.

WBN 735
is the top grade of the range of multi-tipped inserts for finish machining of grey cast iron.

WBN 750
is the recommended grade for highly demanding roughing and finishing and for grooving. WBN 750 inserts come as CBN full face laminated inserts or as multi-tipped inserts.

WBN 575
represents a high-performance grade with excellent wear resistance. Owing to its fine-grained structure, this grade particularly allows for complying with the highest demands in respect of surface quality and dimensional accuracy. It is mainly used for hard turning performed with continuous cutting and high cutting speeds under stable machining conditions. The ideal cutting speed rang for this grade is vc = 140-250 m/min.

WBN 570
is suited for a wide range of hard machining applications owing to its balanced combination of toughness and wear resistance. It is suited for hard turning performed with continuous cutting, and for machining operations performed with moderate interruptions. For this grade, the ideal cutting speed ranges at vc = 120-180 m/min.

WBN 560
is particularly suited for hard turning performed from light to moderate interruptions or under unfavourable machining conditions in continuous cutting. It is used with cutting speeds of vc = 100-160 m/min.

WBN 555
is the top grade for machining operations on hardened steel performed with highly interrupted cuts and using a cutting speed of vc = 80-160 m/min. It is also used for machining of sintered steel and hard metals.
