DGOT 2004 – Televote Survey

At the German Orthopaedic Congress in Berlin in October 2004 the following session took place on 22 October 2005:

Expert team XII:
Hip replacement tribology “Highly cross-linked and ultra hard”

(Expertenrunde XII Endoprothetik Hüfte „Hochvernetzt und Ultrahart” Tribologie)

In this session, which was chaired by Professor V. Jansson of Munich and Assistant Professor Dr. S. Breusch of Edinburgh, the approximately 200 participants, who were present, took part in an anonymous televote survey.

For each of the six questions listed below the participants could choose from four possible answers and could make their choice by televote. They could vote before the presentation and after the presentation and discussion.

The questions were:

  • In hip replacement, which wear couple is the safest?
  • Taking account of all possible complications, which wear couple is the best clinically?
  • Which wear couple would you recommend for younger patients (< 50 years of age)?
  • Which wear couple would you recommend for patients who take part in sport and are highly active?
  • Do you consider the mechanical failure of components (fracture) to be a relevant problem?
  • Do you report all implant fractures to the orthopaedic company/regulatory authorities?

The results of this survey can be seen here (PDF/3MB). In those slides which are bar charts, the first bar represents the vote before the presentation and the second bar the vote after the presentation and discussion. You can request these results as a powerpoint document by clicking here.
