Wear Performance
Wear tests using hip simulators demonstrate the excellent performance of BIOLOX®delta in wear applications. With BIOLOX®delta wear debris is hardly detectable. Moreover the excellent wear behaviour is not affected by gamma sterilisation or by multiple sterilisation cycles in the autoclave, as shown below. Nor is the wear rate affected by hydrothermal ageing, which is a heat treatment intended to promote phase transformation. These results provided strong evidence that the phase transformation problem, which often occurred with zirconia implants, does not occur with BIOLOX®delta.
