Dimensional Stability
BIOLOX® ball heads and cup inserts are not deformed under the loads encountered in vivo. This fact coupled with improved surface finish are prerequisites for the improved wear resistance of BIOLOX® components. Its excellent dimensional stability is due to its extremely high elastic modulus and its high compressive strength. In investigations made on explanted devices, which had articulated against polyethylene, it was demonstrated that BIOLOX® ball heads maintained their dimensional stability even after more than ten years in vivo. Furthermore it was determined that the ball heads, which were investigated, still conformed precisely to the specifications and tolerances as they did at the time when they were made.
