Unipolar Ball Heads
Design Concept
Clinical evidence demonstrates the exceptionally good long term results
obtained in the treatment of femoral neck fractures in elderly patients using
unipolar BIOLOX®forte ball heads. Using large ball heads
it is possible to combine the superior wear properties of the
clinically-proven BIOLOX®forte ceramic with the
advantages provided by a hemi-arthroplasty, namely smaller incision and
shorter operating time. With BIOLOX®forte the surface
wettability and friction in comparison with metal ball heads is better by
a factor of ten. The extremely smooth surface makes the movement of the
large BIOLOX®forte ball head almost frictionless and
protects the acetabular cartilage. As clinical results demonstrate,
complications such as protrusio acetabuli, can be significantly reduced.
A further advantage is the excellent biocompatibility. BIOLOX®forte releases
no metal ions and causes
no allergic reactions.
