SPK-Cermet

The cutting material for precision and fine machining of steel,
sintered metals and ductile cast iron

SPK-Cermets are based on titanium nitride and titanium carbide and a metal binder (Ni-Co). Compared with conventional carbides they offer a higher hot hardness and cutting edge stability, less friction, higher resistance against oxidation and diffusion resulting in a highly increased wear resistance. In comparison with ceramics SPK-Cermets achieve higher toughness and enable the design of chip breakers.

Typical applications for SPK-Cermets are all machining operations where high surface qualities and close dimensional tolerances of the work pieces have to be achieved. Good tool life at higher cutting speeds and small chip cross sections can be realized. Especially when machining so called “Near-Net-Shape-Parts” with small and uniform depths of cut SPK-Cermets reach their performance to its full extent.

The SPK Cermet program

SC 8015
SPK-Cermet grade with a multi TiN-TiCN-Al2O3 coating. High wear resistance and high cutting speed indicates this grade. Excellent resistance against crater wear allows finishing and semi finishing of steel and cast iron.

SC 7035
SPK-Cermet grade with a TiAIN coating fort he range of application from fine finishing to semi rough turning. Main application in turning case hardening and heat treatable steel, additional applications in turning stainless steel and cast iron.

SC 7015
SPK-Cermet grade with an Al2O3 coating. Its main applications is finish turning and semi rough turning of cast iron and steel at elevated cutting speeds.

SC 15
SPK-Cermet grade for fine turning of steel and stainless steel especially for positive inserts with sharp cutting edges.

SC 35
SPK-Cermet grade for general use in finish turning of steel and stainless steel. Available in a large variety of different insert geometries and chip breaker styles.

SC 40
SPK-Cermet grade for grooving of steel and cast iron.

SC 60
SPK-Cermet grade for finishing to light rough milling steel and ductile cast iron.
