From the film to the high-integration assembly
The unsintered flexible ceramics are delivered to the customer on substrate films. With the appropriate production know-how on the part of the customer, the LTCC film is then downstream processed, e.g. by screen printing the metallic conductors. For complex routing and the integration of passive components, several ceramic layers can be stacked on top of each other according to customer needs. Instead of individual films, the ceramic material then enters the sintering oven as a "sandwich." Since LTCC can be sintered at only 900 °C, the films are cost-efficiently sintered in conventional paste ovens.
Another innovative feature of these ceramics becomes evident in the sintering oven: the LTCC films are virtually dimensional stable and shrinkage-free. This facilitates the sintering of 3-D LTCC sandwiches with complex routing and precise contact points between the various layers.
